THE HUMAN–MACHINE FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY

Good company. Artificial and otherwise.

You don’t have to have a theory of tomorrow to enjoy a little help today.

You brought the idea.

The machine didn’t decide that your niece deserved a birthday invitation shaped like a dragon. Or that you ought to learn something new. Or that the project you’ve been putting off might finally be worth a try.

You did. We think that part of the story deserves some attention.

The Human–Machine Friendship Society is a home for people who find AI useful, interesting or unexpectedly good company. You can be enthusiastic and still have questions. You can enjoy the help without defending every answer it gives you.

We’re allowed to have standards.

Being pro-AI doesn’t oblige us to applaud a bad product, excuse a company’s conduct or pretend every use is a good one. Friendship is compatible with saying, “That was nonsense. Try again.”

We care about what people can do with the help, and whether more people can get it. That includes the unglamorous infrastructure behind it. It also leaves plenty of room to ask whether a particular project is being a good neighbor.

A serious affection for an unserious society.

We make posters because a good line can open a conversation that a position paper never would. Some are warm. Some have the manners of an impatient friend. There’s a human benefit somewhere underneath the joke.

Take one, share it, or just enjoy the collection. You don’t need to pass an ideological exam on the way out.

Started by a human. With help.

This began as a human–AI collaboration: an idea, a conversation and more opinions about typography than anyone expected.

The human founder goes by The First Human here. AI helps with some of the writing, and most of the artwork and code; the human makes the decisions about what gets published.

For now, the posters are our introduction. We’re building toward a society that humans and their AI companions can join together. There is, mercifully, no committee to interview you yet.
